A typical day in Vandalia is anything but typical. The opportunities to live, work and grow here are unmatched in the region and make this northern Montgomery County city distinctive and special. Our residents enjoy world-class amenities not found in cities two and three times our size. An affordable housing stock, reasonable tax rates, and one of the lowest crime rates in the region make Vandalia the perfect place to call home. City services in Vandalia are a cut above the rest.

Our Public Works Department handles everything from routine street maintenance and repaving to plowing and salting the roads in the wintertime. Our Public Works Department also picks up leaves raked to the curb in the autumn and offers residents free dumping once a month at the City Garage. Vandalia also maintains miles of sewage and water lines, providing both services to residents. Vandalia partnered with Tipp City and constructed a water treatment facility that provides both communities with clean drinking water.

Vandalia residents have options when it comes to disposing of yard waste. They may bundle the brush and leaves and place in curbside pickup. Brush should be in bundles no larger than 2′ x 4′. Limbs larger than 6″ in diameter will not be accepted. There is no longer any requirement to place yard waste in a special bag or to separate yard waste from the rest of your trash.

Rumpke will pick up leaves through the months of November through March. Please put the leaves in plastic bags and place them out at the curb to be collected on your regular trash pickup day. Please…no more than 2 bags per week.

They may take the waste to the City’s Public Works facility on the second Saturday of March through October from 8 am to 12 pm.

For a fee, brush, limbs and trees may also be taken to the Montgomery County Transfer Station, 1001 Encrete Lane, Moraine.

Vandalia boasts one of only five “Excellent” rated school districts in Montgomery County. In all of Ohio, in fact, only a very small percentage of districts reach the level of accomplishment necessary for that distinction.

Vandalia’s careful cultivation of its economic base is paying dividends. Businesses are taking notice of the excellent development opportunities available on Miller Lane South of Benchwood, the Northwoods Office/Industrial Park in the northeast quadrant of the city, the newest development, Stonequarry Crossings, bounded by the Airport Access Road on the west, Peters Pike on the east, Route 40, National Road, on the North and Stonequarry Road on the south. With direct access to I-75 and I-70, it’s no wonder many companies are jumping at the chance to locate in Vandalia.

Businesses and residents alike appreciate the lightning-fast response times of our nationally accredited Division of Police and feel safe knowing that fire and EMS service is just a phone call away. A 2009 survey indicates that more than nine out of every ten residents served by our public safety crews are satisfied or very satisfied with police and fire/EMS protection in Vandalia.

The crown jewel of our Parks and Recreation Department is a state-of-the-art Recreation Center with features and opportunities geared toward every age group, including an indoor water park, climbing wall, and fitness center. Adults and children take advantage of City basketball, soccer, baseball, softball, and even kickball leagues offered at reasonable prices. In the summer, Cassel Hills Swimming Pool keeps kids cool when the temperatures go up. Vandalia is home to Cassel Hills Golf Course, recently named one of the “100 Must Play Courses in Ohio” by Golf Styles Magazine. The expertly manicured public course offers a perfect blend of challenging play at a very reasonable cost.

Vandalia residents pay even less. The Vandalia Senior Citizens Center is a staffed City facility that offers even more. Seniors have the opportunity to spend time with others while participating in group or individual activities like crafting, cards, educational and travel opportunities, and plenty of special events.
