McEntire's casting comes after news of Jensen Ackles' addition as a season 3 series regular as Beau Arlen, a sheriff from Texas and Jenny's new boss. He will be introduced in the season 2 finale, set to air May 19. Jamie-Lynn Sigler, who portrays Tonya, a local diner waitress who becomes a trusted confidant for Cassie and Jenny, has also been promoted to a series regular.

Logan Marshall-Green, Jesse James Keitel, Janina Gavankar, and Dedee Pfeiffer also star in the series. As for McEntire, the country star is no stranger to TV. She headlined her own sitcom, Reba, about a single mother of three navigating life and love in Texas, for six seasons between 2001 and 2007. She's also starred in Malibu Country, Baby Daddy, Last Man Standing, and Young Sheldon.

It’s been seven months since Big Sky first premiered on ABC and captivated audiences, but after 16 episodes and two hiatuses it’s finally come to an end. We finally know what happened to the Kleinsasser family, and if our favorite fearless detectives are any closer to finding their perp.

Big Sky started as a chilling human trafficking saga set against the backdrop of a sleepy small town. With its Season 1 finale, it seems as if the David E. Kelley series is getting back to its roots. Desperate to know how Big Sky ends? If you’re one of those people who flips to the back of the novel halfway through, we have you covered.

What Happened to the Kleinsasser Family?

Let’s get the family drama out of the way. After turning his kids against one another and using his ranch as a way to hide casual murder, Horst (Ted Levine) lost almost all of his allies. But the biggest loss was his wife. After telling Horst exactly what she thought of all the years she spent sacrificing her life for his, Margaret (Michelle Forbes) spiked his drink with something unknown and deadly. And that, dear friends, marks the second time a vengeful Big Sky wife offed her husband.

But this time she wasn’t working alone. Cheyenne (Britt Robertson) was on Team Mom all along, which means she now has control over the ranch. She celebrated by delivering cupcakes to Jenny (Katheryn Winnick) and Cassie (Kylie Bunbury). Most murder accomplices would avoid the police after their crimes, but not this one. Honestly, good riddance to this family.

What Happened to Ronald and Scarlet?

Last episode Scarlet (Anja Savcic) revealed that she knew “Arthur” (Brian Geraghty) was actually Ronald Pergman. Not only was she cool with all of his murdering and human trafficking, she was thrilled with it. Guess there really is someone out there for everyone.

To avoid being captured by Deputy U.S. Marshal Mark Lindor (Omar Metwally) and Jerrie (Jesse James Keitel), the two came up with a plan. Scarlet would pretend that she was Ronald’s hostage. If he was captured she would then use Ronald’s hard drive to look up someone by the name of John Milton. As they waited for Mr. Milton to work his magic, Ronald would distract the police by taking credit for the murder of Scarlet’s boyfriend and leading them to one of his actual victims, the now-dead Kelly.

Their plan worked like a twisted charm. John Milton was actually another corrupt State Trooper who outfitted Scarlet with a new phone and pulled off the coolest stunt in Big Sky Season 1: flipping a police car via crash. In the chaos of that car flip a stranger was able to grab Ronald and take him back to Scarlet. They were then given new IDs and told to start a new life across the border in Canada.

But that plan didn’t work for Scarlet. Before the State Trooper took her away, he arranged for her daughter to be taken somewhere else. Apparently Scarlet is cool with multiple murders, human trafficking, and having knockoff Norman Bates as her boyfriend, but leaving behind her daughter is a bridge too far. Scarlet and Ronald killed their chauffeur and vowed to get back Scarlet’s daughter.

A couple of notes about that. Even though Scarlet hasn’t quite figured it out yet, she’s definitely been inducted into this human trafficking ring. Those are just facts. Also the existence of another corrupt State Trooper like Legarski (John Carroll Lynch) proves that this thing is even bigger than we realized.

Then there’s Scarlet’s sister Mary (Jaycie Dotin). Don’t forget that Ronald murdered her and buried her body, the latter act Phoebe (Zoë Noelle Baker) witnessed. At this point Scarlet still has no idea what happened to her sister, but when she finds out that Ronald killed her that may change their relationship. Or not. Scarlet revealed in Episode 16 that Mary was a bully and that she kind of hated her. So who knows with this crazy lovebirds?

Is Jenny Dead?

That’s the big cliffhanger of Big Sky Season 1. Remember the car flip that released Ronald? John Milton’s associate was on the verge of killing Cassie when Jenny and her gun came to the rescue just in time. Instead of shooting Cassie he shot Jenny in the chest. In Big Sky‘s final moments Jenny was driven to the hospital in an ambulance while Cassie panicked over the fate of her new best friend.

Want to know something even more depressing? Before Jenny was shot she swore to spend more time with her son. You know, the son she saw so infrequently that you forgot he existed. Here’s hoping she survives until Season 2 premieres, and can make good on that promise.

Who Was Kelly / Kelli in Big Sky?

When Ronald was in police custody his job was to distract Cassie, Jenny, and Mark for as long as possible. Since Ronald is a relentless creep, he accomplished that goal by baiting Mark into playing him music and taunting them with stories of his various crimes. Kelli fell into the latter category.

At one point Ronald took Cassie, Jenny and Mark to a dilapidated house, claiming this was where he stored Kelli and Mary’s bodies. That house turned out to essentially be a giant wooden box. As Ronald talked about how this used to be his happy place, they found “Kelli”, a decomposing body covered in a shroud. Ronald denied killing her, claiming that he just stopped coming. Since it’s clear that Kelli was trapped in this house with no escape it’s pretty clear she starved to death, so yeah. Completely Ronald’s fault. But who was this woman?

All we know about Kelli was that her name was carved into Ronald’s truck. The message “Help me — Kelli” has taunted the police since Episode 11. We don’t know much else about this particular victim, but her existence proves that Ronald’s reign of terror is wider reaching than anyone could have predicted. If this man is capable of capturing a woman and starving her to death without anyone noticing, what else is he hiding?
