What time does the cowboys play tonight

The Cowboys are playing an unusually high number of Thursday games in 2021. They are playing on a Thursday for the third time in Week 13, but incredibly, it's just the third time that they will play on "Thursday Night Football."

The first Thursday night game of the season for the Cowboys came in Week 1. That was a matchup between them and the Buccaneers that technically was a "Sunday Night Football" game because NBC broadcast it. Last week, the Cowboys played their usual Thanksgiving Day game. That was broadcast on CBS and took place during the afternoon.

Now, they're finally playing on both a Thursday and during "Thursday Night Football." They are playing another team that played on Thanksgiving — the Saints — in a clash between two teams that are coming off tough losses.

Both teams also could be shorthanded this week. The Cowboys are going to be without coach Mike McCarthy following a positive COVID test. The Saints are dealing with numerous injuries and may be switching up their quarterbacks. Taysom Hill could replace a struggling Trevor Siemian — if Hill is healthy enough to do that.

The Saints need a win to keep their Wild Card hopes alive while the Cowboys could use a win to keep a bit of distance between themselves and the surging Washington Football Team. We'll find out if they can do that beginning at 8:20 p.m. ET at the Caesar's Superdome in New Orleans, La.

Below is everything to know about the TV schedule for the NFL Week 13 opener between the Cowboys and Saints, plus a look at the rest of the NFL schedule for this week.

NFL Week 13 schedule

The Saints vs. Cowboys game will kick off Week 13 of NFL action. Both of the teams in action played, and lost, on Thanksgiving with the Cowboys falling in overtime against the Raiders and the Saints getting blown out by the Bills. New Orleans is planning to start Taysom Hill this week — if healthy — so that could change things up a bit for them.

The other prime-time games in Week 13 will be some intriguing divisional clashes. The Broncos are set to the take on the Chiefs in a "Sunday Night Football" game that was flexed into prime-time ahead of the Seahawks-49ers. The Chiefs (7-4) lead the other three teams in the AFC West by one game and will look to keep it that way while the Broncos battle for their first win in their last 11 tries against the Chiefs.

"Monday Night Football" will feature the Patriots and Bills playing in Buffalo. This game will determine which team has the inside track to first place in the AFC East, though there are two Patriots-Bills matchups remaining this year.

Elsewhere, the Cardinals return from bye to take on the Bears while the 0-10-1 Lions look for their first win at home against the Vikings.

Cardinals vs. Cowboys features two teams trending in very different directions. While Arizona is 10-5 on the year with a playoff spot clinched, three straight losses to the Rams, Lions, and Colts are throwing up a lot of red flags about the team. The Rams have surpassed the Cardinals in the NFC West, and the Cardinals appear to have a lot to figure out offensively when DeAndre Hopkins isn’t on the field.

On the other side, you have the Dallas Cowboys, who looked like a juggernaut all throughout December. They went 4-0 with a point differential of +74, with a 56-14 win over the Washington Football Team last week helping that number along. Dak Prescott completed 67 percent of his passes for seven touchdowns and three picks in that span, and he is looking as good as advertised for the Cowboys in recent weeks. His plethora of weapons hasn’t hurt his cause, with Amari Cooper looking like a steady, consistent target and CeeDee Lamb looking like an explosive threat.

The Cardinals, however, have plenty of fight left. With the Rams facing two tough opponents to end their season and Arizona holding the tiebreaker, they have a very real shot at clawing their way back into the West’s No. 1 spot. However, it will involve a lot of work and a little luck. Against a team playing as well as Dallas is playing – they have No. 1 seed aspirations if the Packers drop one of their last two – the Cardinals will have to recalibrate after their last three losses to pull themselves out of this nosedive and head into the playoffs with momentum.

Bizarrely, playing on the road may end up being a boon for the Cardinals. They’re 7-1 on the season, so perhaps the idea is to avoid State Farm Stadium in the postseason. The Cardinals are no strangers to late-season struggles, and a game against the Cowboys certainly isn’t the medicine they need. But inversely, a win would be a gigantic step forward for a team looking to find some consistency throughout the season.

Here’s what you need to know to watch Cardinals vs. Cowboys this Sunday, including kickoff time, TV channels, and the full Week 17 NFL schedule.
