What is the first book in wings of fire

There it is: the Wings of Fire series starts with the underdog.  And who doesn't want to root for the underdog?  Besides the fact that the first few pages of the novel are actually illustrations of the different types of dragons, and THEN, we get this mysterious 'Dragonet Prophecy' (see below) and THEN we get a lovely and intriguing prologue, when we get to the actual true beginning of The Dragonet Prophecy, we start off with a dragon who wants to be a hero.

I can see right away why my Bookworm girls were sucked into this series.  Somehow even though I've posted a million Bookstagram pics of the series, I haven't posted about it on the blog so I thought The Dragonet Prophecy was the perfect book to start off February with our First Pages series.  If your little one isn't already into dragons, they may enjoy this series anyway just to learn about the different groups of dragons.  Also, since I'm always hearing quotes from my girls and often being read long sections of text, I've discovered that Sutherland has a knack for witty and sarcastic dialogue that will have your little one giggling and laughing out loud.

I'm really surprised that I cannot recite the Dragonet Prophecy in my sleep.  I've heard it enough.  My bookworm girls definitely can.  In fact, Little Lion recited it for one of her monthly 'poems' at school. :D

In sum, we have a map, a guide to the various dragons of Pyrrhia, a prophecy, a mysterious prologue, and an underdog hero—a great way to start a novel!

As a bonus, today is World Read Aloud Day!  The Wings of Fire books are excellent books to read aloud, unless you really have a problem with sarcasm.  And humor.

But not every dragonet wants a destiny. When one of their own is threatened, Clay and his friends decide to escape. Maybe they can break free and end the war at the same time. Or maybe they'll risk everything to protect the magical land they love.

The seven dragon tribes of Pyrrhia have been at war for generations in this fast-paced fantasy series, locked in an endless battle over an ancient, lost treasure. A secret movement called the Talons of Peace is determined to bring an end to the fighting, with the help of a prophecy—a foretelling that calls for great sacrifice.

Five dragonets are collected to fulfill the prophecy, raised in a hidden cave and enlisted, against their will, to end the terrible war. But not every dragonet wants a destiny. And when Clay, Tsunami, Glory, Starflight, and Sunny discover the truth about their unusual secret upbringing, they must choose between freedom and fate, each one seeking a way to save the world in their own way.

Fire-breathing battles and breathtaking betrayals give this series broad appeal for middle grade fantasy fans.

This series is composed of different subseries, including a prequel and a mini-series. As a result, there are different ways to read this series. While publication order is usually the most recommended I would make a slight adjustment to such advice: reading Darkstalker (a prequel) before the third saga, The Lost Continent Prophecy, since it is still in progress.

You also have the Winglets, short stories only published as ebooks, these novels fill gaps from the main story, the narrative being told from the point of view of a minor character. Still, quite interesting interesting that you will enjoy for sure.
