Honey and honeycombs in Minecraft can be valuable resources, but players will need to work with bee mobs in their production process to get them.

In Minecraft, bees naturally leave their nests and collect pollen from flowers. Once they have enough pollen, they will return to their nests and produce both honey and honeycombs. The honey can be collected with bottles, and the honeycombs can be harvested with shears.

However, bees don't appreciate having their hard-earned honey taken and will typically attack players who don't pacify them with the appropriate measures. In order to farm honey effectively, players will need plenty of bees and either nests or man-made beehives.

Minecraft: Creating a simple farm for honey and honeycombs

Creating a honey farm in Minecraft requires a few things. Specifically, it will require bees, flowers, and a home for the bees themselves. Players can craft man-made beehives using six wooden planks and three honeycombs, or they can use a Silk Touch-enchanted tool to pocket a natural bee nest.

It is important to remember for Minecraft: Bedrock Edition players, however, that removing a nest with Silk Touch will still enrage any bees that aren't safely inside, so be sure that things are clear before proceeding.

If Minecraft players create artificial beehives, they'll need to transport the bees to their new home. This can be done in a few ways.

Players can use a lead to bring a bee to their new home, they can place flowers around the hives to entice nearby bees, or they can place a nearby Silk Touched bee nest, wait for the bees to depart, then destroy the nest, forcing the remaining bees to return to the hive.

Any of these methods should do the trick, although transferring from a natural bee nest is likely the least arduous.

Once players have their bees secured, they'll want to place their nests or hives slightly above ground with a source of flame directly beneath it or a campfire five or less blocks underneath it (be careful not to surround open flames with flammable blocks).

The smoke from the flames will relax the bees and allow players to harvest the honey and honeycombs from the hives without making them hostile. Players should also surround the hives with as many flowers as they can, which bees use to gather pollen and produce their materials.

The more flowers, bees, and nests/hives, the more honey and honeycombs that can be produced for Minecraft players.

On a final note, bees don't enjoy the rain, and return to their homes when things get rainy outside. If players would like, they can enclose their honey farm with blocks to keep out the bad weather, allowing bees to continue collecting pollen without being hampered by the rain.

Many Minecraft players create hybrid greenhouse structures that feature both beehives and crops, which allow them to collect from bee nests/hives and give bees the ability to spread pollen to nearby crops, speeding their growth rates in a means similar to bone meal.

Minecraft has a plethora of resources for the players to collect and use in the game. These resources can be used for various purposes such as crafting, enchanting, levelling up and more. One of the resources that many players have been inquisitive about is Honey in Minecraft. In this guide, the players will be able to learn how to farm Honey and Bees in Minecraft in the most efficient way.

Bees and Honey Farming Guide

Bees are one of the mobile creatures that can be found in Minecraft, to obtain Honey in the game players will have to head towards areas that have a higher density of Bees. Bees can only be found in Biomes that contain Oak and Birch trees; players can also extract Honeycombs along with Honey from these bees.

Spawning Bee Nests

They spawn and roam around bee nests that can be found connected to one of the two trees. If the players aren’t able to find these beehives, then they spawn it themselves by simply planting a sapling of a Birch tree or the Oak tree and planting a flower next to it. Then the players should Bone Meal the tree to get a 5% chance of spawning a nest on it.

After the bee nests have been spawned, the player will then need to harvest the Honey and Honeycombs from them. Nests that are filled with honey can be recognized by observing whether the honey is dripping out of them, if it is then the nest is full to the brim. The player can then move on to harvest the honey by right-clicking on the nest with a glass bottle in their hand and if they wish to harvest honeycombs then they need to right-click the nest with shears in their hands.

Harvesting Honey and Honey Combs

One thing to keep in mind while harvesting is to pacify the bees before. If the bees haven’t been pacified then they will enter into an aggressive mode and try to sting the player and these stings can inflict a hefty amount of damage. There are two ways that players can pacify the bees, for the first one they will need to place a campfire right under the hive, this will then allow them to harvest safely. For the second way, the players can use a Dispenser to safely extract the honey from the nest.

Another tip to keep in mind is that bees are needed to produce honey, just like in the real world and they will die once they sting the player also like the real world. In these situations, the players will have to breed the remaining bees to increase their bee count, which can be done by leading one bee to another. To lead one bee to another the player just needs to keep a flower in their hand near the bee they want to breed to make it follow them. Then just lead that bee to another bee to breed them.

Crafting Beehives

After harvesting a decent number of honeycombs, the players can then move on to crafting beehives. To craft a beehive the player should first go to their crafting table, then in the 3x3 resources field they need to input the following items; in the top section insert 3 Oak Planks, in the middle section insert 3 honeycombs and then in the bottom section insert 3 more Oak Planks.

This will let the player craft a beehive for themselves, hives and nests work in the same way with just appearance changes. Crafting hives will save the player some time though, as they can skip the whole process of spawning a nest and use their existing bees on the hive itself. This process can then be used to create a large bee farm to harvest huge amounts of honey.

Creating a Bee Farm

To create a bee farm, the players will have to move the bee nests and beehives in closer proximity. But this process needs to be done with the right tools or else the nest could break, or the bees could get aggressive. To safely move the beehives or bee nests the players should use tools with Silk Touch, this will not only maintain the amount of honey that was there in the nest but also maintain the number of bees that were there in the nest. A nest can contain a maximum number of 3 bees at a time. Players should also plant a decent number of flowers around their farms for the bees to collect pollen.

Creating an Auto Farm

After creating a big enough hive, gathering enough materials and breeding a massive number of bees, the players can then move on to creating their own automated harvesting bee farm.

The first thing to remember is to create this farm in the Nether Biome or the End, as there is no darkness or rain in this region. Minecraft adds a certain amount of realism to the game and in this situation, it applies towards bees. Bees do not work during the night and the rain in reality and the game, so this move will work for their benefit.

Now the player should first place 10 granite blocks in one line. Then on top of the first block, leave a space for one block, and then set another 5 blocks horizontally, one on one side of the block and 4 on the other side.

Then set one block adjacent to the last block on the 4 block side, but one level higher with just their one edge touching each other. Then from the block you just placed, move to blocks towards the right on top of the 4 block line and one block right on top of it. Then create an inverted L shape by placing another block on top of it and another one on the right of the most recent block. After that place a slab on the left side of the most recent block.

After that move to the other side where there one block from the 5 block line rests. Leave a space on top and then place a block, then place another block on its left-hand side, but one level higher with the edges touching.

Now the players should head back to the inverted L shape they created, and they should see an empty space of two blocks on top of the line between the L shape and the block at the edge. Here they should use the Redstone comparator on the block on the right and place red stone sand on the block on the left and the raised block on the left edge. They should also place this sand on the 3 blocks that are placed on top of the same space at the start of the inverted L’ edge.

Now get a dispenser and place it in the space on the other side of the inverted L. Place the dispenser facing downwards so that it is accessible for extraction. Then in the space that was present in the horizontal 5 block line, place dirt or something that can grow flowers in that space. Then place a block of glass in the space that is present on the far right edge of the installation. Then finally place a nest or a hive under the dispenser and a flower on the dirt you placed.

This will be a base for harvesting from one nest, the players can then extend this creating for how many ever hives or nests they want to place in the automated farm. The players will just have to place a Hopper Mine Cart on the 10 block line underneath this contraption to collect their harvest. This can be done by placing powered rails on that line for the hopper mine to travel on, also placing a block on either edge to restrict its movement.

Place a hopper on the edge and dig a hole for chests underneath to collect your harvest. Place a Redstone Comparator on the other side of the contraption and red stone sand on top of it to power this contraption. Use a red stone in the 10 block line on the second last block to power the line and place a hopper minecart on it to start the process. Keep checking the chest to see how much honey and honeycombs have been farmed.

Uses of Honey in Minecraft

After creating this massive and complex contraption, you must be wondering what am I gonna do with all this honey I have collected, do not worry as we have you covered. One of the first uses of honey is as a health potion, players can consume bottles of honey to replenish small amounts of their health. Honey bottles can also be used as remedies for certain poisons.

Players can also craft a Honey Block for themselves, by putting 4 honey bottles in the left bottom of the 3x3 resources field. Honey Block has various uses, firstly items placed on top of it will move along with the Honey Block as they stick to it. Honey Blocks will also allow the players to stick to it so they can move across walls when used as building items. Falling from a height on a honey block will also reduce the amount of damage incurred when compared to normal fall damage.

Players can also create a Honeycomb block by placing 4 honeycombs in the right bottom corner of the 3x3 field in the crafting table. Honeycombs blocks do not have any use other than being decorative pieces. Honeycombs can also be used to craft hives which is useful for the farming technique. Another decorative use for the Honeycomb would be to use it to make candles, which can be done by using 1 honeycomb and 1 string on the crafting table. Honeycomb can also be used to wax copper blocks, this will prevent them from oxidising and keep them shiny.
