Neymar's contract with Paris Saint-Germain runs through June 2025, but the Brazilian superstar is already thinking ahead, indicating he'd like to play in Major League Soccer.

Should he make the move to the USA, Neymar would be one of the biggest Brazilian stars ever to play in North America since compatriot Kaka (2014-2017 with Orlando City) and the legendary Pele, who starred for the New York Cosmos in the 1970s.

Three years is a long time, but Neymar made it clear that he prefers MLS over a return to Brazil's Serie A, where he was a breakout star for Santos.

In an interview with RonaldoTV, he claimed he has "doubts" about returning to play in Brazil and revealed he would "love to play in the U.S.", putting MLS in pole position to land one of the most talented players of his generation.

“I'd love to play there at least for a season," he said.

"First of all, their season is shorter, so I'd get three months' vacation. I'd play many more years!” he joked. The MLS regular season ends in November and the playoffs typically run through December with preseason training beginning again in mid-January. That calendar was pushed up this year due to the 2022 World Cup happening in winter.

Should he make the move, Neymar would be the latest in a line of global stars to call MLS home, following in the footsteps of David Beckham, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Thierry Henry, Wayne Rooney, Andrea Pirlo, Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard, who all played stateside.

Most recently, former Premier League player and Swiss star Xherdan Shaqiri moved to Chicago Fire FC in a major coup, while Italian star Lorenzo Insigne signed a pre-contract to join Toronto FC in the summer.

When does Neymar's contract with PSG expire?

Neymar’s current PSG deal sees him under contract until June 2025, having signed an extension in May 2021. He will be 33 years old in the year his deal expires.

Currently in his fifth season with the French giants, Neymar has won 10 trophies at PSG, including three league titles and three Coupes de France.

He's still hoping to deliver the big one, however, as PSG is chasing its first UEFA Champions League. They still hope they can pull it off this season with Lionel Messi on the team alongside Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.

On a personal level, he’s notched 91 goals and 56 assists at PSG and featured in the Ligue 1 Team of the Year in three of his four seasons.

When will Neymar Jr retire?

His most recent birthday on Feb. 5 saw the star turn 30, and he revealed that he jokes with his friends that he will retire when he turns 32 — but also claimed that he’ll be at PSG until the end of his current deal.

"I joke with my friends that I will retire when I'm 32," he said.

"But it's just a joke. I don't know. Honestly, I will play until I'm mentally tired. If my mental health is OK, and my body as well... Physically, I think I'll still last a few years.

“My mental health is the most important thing. My contract with Paris will last until I'm 34. So I'll be playing [at least] until then."

After the Champions League with PSG, Neymar will have his sights set on the 2022 Qatar World Cup, set to take place mid-season from Nov. 21 to Dec. 18, where the Brazilian will be hoping to lead his side to a sixth World Cup triumph.

He disclosed that one of his personal goals is to break Pele’s all-time goal record for Brazil, with the PSG star needing just eight goals to overtake their nation's most famous player and become their highest goalscorer of all time.

"It would be a great honor to be the national team's greatest scorer and I would be lying if I said I don't think about it," he admitted.

“Of course, that is one of my personal goals. I hope to achieve it. I do hope I can break Pele's record because he's an idol for everyone in Brazil."

Vannes OC - Paris Saint-Germain

- Kick-off at 21:10 CET (20:10 GMT)

It has been something of a rocky winter break for Mauricio Pochettino's Paris Saint-Germain, with COVID cutting a swathe through the squad and adding the names of Lionel Messi, Juan Bernat, Sergio Rico and most likely Danilo Pereira (who had symptoms on Sunday) to an absentee list that counts Neymar (ankle) and AFCON participants Idrissa Gueye, Abdou Diallo (both Senegal) and Achraf Hakimi (Morocco) among its number.

Poch: 'Absentees are not an excuse'

"We needed to take this time for us during this break, after a tough schedule and most importantly another hard year for everyone from a health perspective," said Pochettino in his pre-match presser on Sunday. "The team will be competitive tomorrow, the absentees are not an excuse, we'll be ready for this game. We're not thinking about the other games yet, we’re focused on Vannes. We know that the players will have the right attitude on the pitch, no matter what the lineup is, because that's what we want to be and show."

Youth in power

Vannes will doubtless still be very wary of their capital club visitors at a Stade de la Rabine reduced to a COVID-friendly 5,000 seats - especially with a certain Kylian Mbappé leading the line. The now-23 year-old has been involved in the most goals of any player in Ligue 1 Uber Eats this season - nine strikes and eight assists for a total of 17 - and he will be on hand to shoulder the scoring burden flanked by youngster Xavi Simons and Georginio Wijnaldum in a 4-3-3. Marco Verratti is tipped to anchor the midfield alongside Ander Herrera and another youngster in Eric Dina Ebimbe, while Presnel Kimpembe marshals a four-man backline alongside Thilo Kehrer, Colin Dagba and Nuno Mendes and in front of Gigio Donnarumma.

Probable teams

Vannes OC:

Pétrel; Duclovel, Lavenant, Lescot, Bérénice; Daury, Yobe, Mama, Ngoubou; Persico (c), Kouassi

Paris Saint-Germain: Donnarumma; Dagba, Kehrer, Kimpembe (c), Nuno Mendes; Herrera, Verratti, Dina Ebimbe; Simons, Mbappé, Wijnaldum

>> Milik: 'Always important to score'

Paris Saint-Germain have informed Neymar Junior that they don’t want him to be a part of their squad for the 2022/23 season. That’s according to RMC as carried by Mundo Deportivo. The French club want to reboot the team and don’t need the Brazilian around.

Kylian Mbappe has apparently complained to the club about Neymar’s indiscipline in training and the way he approaches post-match recovery. He believes that the 30-year-old has been two or three kilos overweight for years and has no place in a leaner PSG.

Neymar joined PSG in the summer of 2017 from Barcelona for €222m but since he renewed his contract in May 2021 his level of performance has dropped considerably.

Neymar is thought to be open to leaving for pastures new but his high wage is a serious stumbling block to such an idea. A loan is thought to be the likeliest option for him. He’s apparently determined to prove them wrong and join another elite European side.

A genuine footballing superstar, Neymar Jr quickly became a sensation in his home country of Brazil. He played 230 professional games for his first club Santos FC, scoring 138 goals before moving to Barcelona in Europe, where he scored an impressive 105 goals in 186 games. Neymar Jr won the Champions League in 2015 and the Olympic games in Rio in 2016, alongside his current teammates Marquinhos and Rafinha.

In 2017, the Brazilian signed for Paris Saint-Germain before then teaming up with another high-powered new arrival, Kylian Mbappé, determined to write history. A technical leader, a dribbling genius, an unpredictable detonator, the number 10 quickly sparked in the City of Light, helping the capital club to the Champions League final in the summer of 2020.
