Virtual reality has been on the market for quite some time, but is only becoming more and more popular due to continued improvements and an increase in the number of people who have access to VR.

Roblox has been ally to the virtual reality frontier, having offered VR support for the game for a number of years. Now, in 2021, players have the potential to experience Roblox with either the Oculus Rift or HTC Vive.

Experiencing Roblox with VR requires a computer with the proper specs, one of the supported headsets, and to complete, a few brief steps to enable it for Roblox.

This article explains what VR headsets are currently supported for Roblox, on top of discussing how to enable and enjoy Roblox with virtual reality.

In order to experience Roblox with virtual reality, players are going to need to make sure that they have Roblox properly installed on their device. This may seem self explanatory, but is still of course necessary.

Players then need to make sure that their VR headset is connected to their personal device, and then that VR mode is toggled on for Roblox. The steps for doing this are slightly different depending on whether a Roblox player plans to use an Oculus Rift or HTC Vive.

Enabling VR for Oculus Rift

Step 1: Roblox players need to open up the Oculus App on their computer and select the upper right icon that looks like a gear.

Step 2: Select Gear Settings

Step 3: Select General for the options on the left menu

Step 4: Toggle the Unknown Sources setting to on, it should appear as being changed from an X to a checkmark.

Step 5: Confirm that the selection to enable this setting is correct

Step 6: Enter into a Roblox game as normal by selecting play

Step 7: If VR mode for Roblox has been toggled on a smaller square screen of the game such as the following should appear

Step 8: Roblox players should put on their VR headset and enjoy the platform with virtual reality!

Enabling VR for HTC Vive

Step 1: Roblox players need to open the SteamVR app on their computer

Step 2: Players need to make sure that their base stations are powered

Step 3: Players need to make sure that their headset is connected to their computer via the link box

Step 4: Players need to make sure that their controllers are turned on by pressing the System button until prompted with a successful beeping sound

Step 5: Players need should check the status icon for the SteamVR app and status lights for their hardware to make sure they are on and all green.

Toggling VR Mode for Roblox

Once Roblox players have their VR headset enabled, they can toggle VR mode on/off for Roblox.

When VR Mode is toggled off, it can be turned on by performing the following steps:

Bring up the System menu for Roblox by pressing the ESC key or clicking on the menu button icon in the upper left-hand corner of thescreen.
Toggle the VR option to on

When VR Mode is toggled on, it can be turned off by performing the following steps:

Players need to press the menu button to bring up the VR Radial Menu
Then select the System Menu option
Lastly, toggle the VR option off

That is pretty much everything that a Roblox player needs to know in order to experience Roblox with either the Oculus Rift or HTC Vive. More information can be found on the official Roblox help page here.

The metaverse is (supposedly) approaching, and virtual reality is one of its gateways. Roblox, the mega-popular digital platform, is known for its traditional video game experiences, but it has many VR titles, too.

You'll need a VR headset and a PC to play Roblox games in virtual reality. In terms of VR gear, the Oculus Quest 2 (what we'll use as an example throughout this article) is an excellent choice, but it's not the only headset compatible with Roblox. As for PCs, you will need a high-powered gaming machine that can render virtual worlds.

Once you have those items in place, download the Oculus App to your PC. After installing it, connect your Oculus Quest 2 to your PC via the $79 Oculus Link Headset Cable (sold separately). If your PC lacks a USB-C connection, check out Oculus Link Headset Cables that support USB 3.1.

Alternatively, you can use Oculus Air Link, an Oculus Quest 2 beta feature, to connect the VR headset to your computer over Wi-Fi. This wireless option isn't as stable as a wired connection, but it doesn’t restrict your movements like the cables do. If wireless performance isn't an issue, then the connection route you walk comes down to preference. Note: You must activate Oculus Air Link from within the headset. Here's how to set it up.

How to Connect the Quest 2 to Your PC Via Wi-Fi

Open the Oculus App on your PC.
Select Settings.
Select Beta from the top tabs.
Toggle on the Air Link option.

Now, you must enable Air Link inside the VR headset. Here's how:

Press your Oculus button on the right VR controller (if the menu is not already up).
Click the time tray.
Click Settings.
Find the Experimental option, and click it.
You'll see an option for Air Link. Toggle it to blue.
You should now see an option on the first menu: Oculus Air Link. Click it.
Select the computer you would like to connect to, and click Pair.
A pairing code will appear on your Oculus desktop app and headset. Make sure these match, and click continue.

The Oculus environment appears once you've connected the VR headset to the PC. From there, you can play Oculus games, Steam games, and other compatible titles. This is also how we get to play Roblox, and make Roblox VR Games.

Please note that you can control your computer from inside the VR environment by selecting the desktop icon from the Quest 2's menu bar. Once you've done that, you can control your mouse with the hand controllers.

How to Find Roblox VR Games

Now that you've set up your Oculus Quest 2, it's time to find Roblox VR games. From the Roblox homepage (either in VR on your desktop, or from your real-world computer) search for VR titles.

The most popular ones are VR hand simulators. They're playgrounds that let you control giant, floating heads and hands, and play with toys in the virtual world. At the time of this writing, there's one VR-exclusive game that I highly recommend checking out: EdgeWorks by GregTame. It requires paid access (450 Robux), so you must pay Robux to play the game.

Most Roblox VR titles include a default setting, view, and controls, so VR games will function out of the box. Their controls may be a little wonky, but the games work.

Make Your Own VR Games
