Red light means the battery is low and the flashing means its charging. Basically it's saying"Hey I'm low on battery but don't worry because I'm charging!"

Ecovacs produces some of the best robot vacuum cleaners in the market today. From the ultra reliable Deebot Ozmo T8 AIVI or the flexible Deebot 900, all Ecovacs robot vacuums work like a charm. Unfortunately, sometimes they can encounter a charging problem.

So, why is your Ecovacs Deebot not charging?

The most common reason why a Deebot is not charging is due to a poor connection between the charging contacts on the robot and the charging dock pins. Clean the charging contacts on the robot and the charging dock with a clean, dry cloth.

If the battery is completely discharged, you may need to reactivate the battery.

That being said, there are 4 possibilities why a Deebot is not charging. If this is happening, continue reading to solve the issue. You will also learn how to prolong the battery and keep it running for as long as it should.

How to know when DEEBOT is fully charged

A Deebot may not charge if the robot is not powered on. To solve, power on Deebot.

2. Deebot has not made a connection to the charging dock

The most common reason why a Deebot is not charging is due to a poor connection between the charging contacts on the robot and the charging dock pins.

Be sure that the robot’s charging contacts have made a clean connection with the charging dock pins. You may move the robot manually to make the connection, if necessary.

How to know when DEEBOT is fully charged

You need to keep the charging contacts on the robot and the charging pins on the charging dock clean at all times.

Clean the charging contacts on the robot and the charging dock with a clean, dry cloth. You may want to learn how to clean a Deebot from top to bottom. Keeping your robot clean allows it to charge normally.

3. Charging dock is unplugged while Deebot is powered ON

Another reason why a Deebot is not charging is due to an unplugged charging dock.

Plug in the charging dock and ensure the Deebot is powered ON. Keep the Deebot on the charging dock at all times to make sure it has a full battery to work at any time.

4. The battery is completely discharged

The last reason why a Deebot is not charging is because the battery is completely discharged. To solve this issue, you will need to reactivate the Deebot’s battery.

To reactivate the Deebot’s battery, power the robot on. Place the Deebot on the charging dock by hand, then remove it after 3 minutes of charging. Repeat 3 times, then charge normally.

Why is Deebot having trouble finding its charging dock?

A Deebot will continue to run until its battery runs low. Then, it will automatically slow down and return to its charging dock. Unfortunately, sometimes a Deebot can have difficulty finding its charging dock.

Here’s what you can do to help your Deebot find its charging dock:

  1. Provide access to the charging dock. Make sure that the door to the room where the charging dock is located is not closed.
  2. Clear the charging dock area free of obstacles. Keep an area 0.5 m either side and 1 m in front of the charging dock clear of obstacles and reflective objects (such as mirrors, metals, and glasses).
  3. Start the Deebot from the charging dock. We recommend setting Deebot to start cleaning from the charging dock. (If the Deebot is away from the charging dock, please move it to the charging dock manually. After hearing "I'm starting to charge", press the AUTO mode button or use the mobile phone to start the robot from the charging dock).
  4. Keep the robot’s sensors clean. Check whether there is dust on the lens and clean them if necessary.
  5. Provide enough lighting around the house. Keep the room where the charging dock is located and the area of cleaning as bright as possible while the robot is cleaning.
  6. Do not place the charging dock on a carpet. If the charging dock is placed on a carpet and the Deebot is having trouble returning to the charging dock or cannot find the charging dock, it is recommended to adjust the direction of the charging dock.
  7. Place the charging dock on hard floors. If the charging dock is placed on a carpet and the Deebot is in mopping mode, it will not go over the carpet by default because it is equipped with an ultrasonic sensor.

While you probably don't want the charging dock in the middle of your living room, it does help to test various locations for the charger. The charging station sends out a low power radio signal that attracts the Deebot. Sometimes, just the slightest location move of the charger can really help your Deebot find its way home.

If you wish to send your Deebot back to the charging dock early, you can use the app to do it. First, press the Play/Pause button on the remote, then you can press the charge/home button. You will notice the Deebot will stop vacuuming and will head back to the charging dock.

FAQ on charging a Deebot and its battery

How to know when DEEBOT is fully charged

On average, a fully-charged Ecovacs Deebot battery lasts between 90 to 200 minutes of runtime, depending on the model. For example, the Deebot 900 has a maximum runtime of 90 minutes while the Deebot OZMO 950 has an extremely lengthy battery life, running for up to 200 minutes on a single charge.

However, the working varies according to floor surface, room complexity, and the selected cleaning mode.

On the Max setting, the Deebot 900 runs out of juice in about 45 minutes. That was just about enough to finish a clean on the Max setting in our test space, with barely another square meter left to go.

2. How long does Deebot take to charge?

It takes between 3 to 5 hours to charge a completely empty Deebot battery. However, it takes less than 3 hours to charge if the Deebot battery is not completely empty.

It is recommended to charge your Deebot for at least 4 hours before its first use.

3. How to know if Deebot is charging?

The AUTO mode button flashes when charging, and goes out when Deebot is fully charged.

4. Can I leave Deebot charging all the time?

You can leave Deebot charging all the time.

In fact, it is recommended by Ecovacs to leave your Deebot at the charging dock. Once the robot is fully charged, it switches into trickle charging and goes to sleep so the battery will not be overcharged.

5. Can you replace the battery in a Deebot?

Deebot comes with a long-life battery, and does not require frequent replacement.

However, If the Deebot’s battery is fully discharged or has not been used for a long time, its capacity may decrease and need to be charged (normally for 3-5 hours).

If the Deebot’s cleaning time is shortened when the battery reaches the end of its service life, replace the battery. You can buy a Deebot replacement battery right here.

To replace the battery, unscrew the battery pack screws, then remove the battery pack. Insert the new battery pack, reinsert and tighten the screws.
