There’s no doubt that almost everyone’s favorite character on FBI: International is Tank, Forrester’s trusty dog. What type of dog is Tank?

Unless you’re not a dog person, Tank will have quickly become your favorite member of the Fly Team. We’ve watched him help take down criminals with just a word from Forrester.

Very few shows include animals. Those that do quickly find the dogs becoming the favorite members. Look at Cerberus (and now Pepper) on SEAL Team. And there’s no doubt we adore Rex on Hudson and Rex. There are a lot of people asking about Tuesday on Chicago Fire.

Including Tank is great, but it’s led to a lot of people wondering about the type of dog Tank is. Played by Green, the dog is referred to as the team’s “trusty Schutzhund dog” in a CBS press release. Is that the type of dog?

FBI: International: What type of dog is Tank?

Tank is actually a giant schnauzer. “Schutzhund” in German means “protection dog,” and is just as Tank is described in the press release. He’s there to offer the team the extra protection needed.

According to Parade, Dick Wolf ready a piece about giant schnauzers being police-trained dogs in Europe. This was the launching off point to bring in the dog into the show.

They are known for loyalty and protectiveness in Germany. Giant schnauzers are also extremely intelligent and have territorial instincts.

Of course, now that we have a dog on the team, there is one thing the team must always do: protect Tank. There is no way that we can see something happen to this member of the team. That’s a surefire way to get people to stop watching! You can kill whichever human you want off, but never touch the dog!

It is going to be interesting to see Tank and Forrester interact more. There’s a backstory between them, and it’s only a matter of time before it comes up.
