Free emotional intelligence at work: learn from your emotions leila bulling towne
This episode is very special to me.

You’ll hear me talk to my dear friend and mentor, Leila Bulling Towne, on why increasing your emotional intelligence is one of the most effective ways to scale yourself and your career to the top.

Leila is THE expert on emotional intelligence. She’s been coaching leaders from startup founders to Fortune 500 leaders for more than 20 years, AND in 2018 she was named one of the top coaches for startup founders by The Information.

Leila has been featured in the Economist.com, Fast Company, NBCNews.com, BBC.com, Wall Street Journal, Marketplace Radio, Glassdoor, CareerBuilder, Ladders.com, HR Magazine, Forbes, The Rotarian, SHRM.org, and others.

In this episode, we dig into why emotional intelligence is such a critical tool for leaders – not only because it will help you be successful at the senior executive level, but also because it’ll give you the skills you need to manage and leverage your own emotions as you rise through the ranks.

Go Warriors! On the way to see Boston clients, and the Warrior cheer team was at the gate as well as a DJ. I forgot to wear my cheer outfit. I opted for travel pants (sweats?). I didn’t dance at the gate, yet my kids say they spotted my big pink briefcase (and then me) in news footage. That bag has been around the globe, and now it’s finally gotten some press. This makes the wait at SFO and the middle seat a bit more fun. It doesn’t matter who your team is as long as you are passionate and dedicated and listen to your team. Listen and do what you say and have fun. I need a ticket to the game. 😀 #dubnation #team #leadershipcoaching #leader #executivecoach AwesomeLeader.com

Do you think you have it all figured out? How to be a great leader who's wearing pajama pants? There's a lot still to learn, and I'm excited to talk to #SHRM members and guests about #remoteleadership and #eq. June 7 at 9 am PT/12 noon ET/17:00 GMT. I'll share the characteristics I've seen my executive coaching clients repeatedly use as they've helped their teams and companies continue navigating this pandemic and mask on/off world. #leadershipcoaching #executivecoach This event is open to all. Please register and join me: https://lnkd.in/gDBwmY6C. I'll share a leadership brand assessment and lesson to help you fine-tune your leadership--remote, hybrid, in the office, etc. If you miss the event, contact me to get those resources. #leadershipdevelopment AwesomeLeader.com Thanks to BambooHR for sponsoring this event. #freewebinar

"We saw something that wasn't right, and we acted on it." Jacinda Ardern, PM of New Zealand. What do you see that's not right? And will you act on it? I've been told for many years that my opinions are too bold, too direct, and too honest. I help a few nonprofits each year, pro bono. Upaya Social Ventures is one I'm proud to work with. If you are an executive at a nonprofit that wishes to take action on reasonable and actionable gun control, and you want to be bold, direct, and honest, send me a message, and I will work with you for free. All other leaders . . . say something and DO something. And keep pushing. For whatever you feel helps your teams, peers, and customers. https://lnkd.in/gNfx3VzM #awesomleader #love #leadershipcoaching

I graduated college in a recession--with a double major in English and German. Smart choices, right? Gotta hand it to my parents (both European immigrants who didn't go to college) that they didn't tell me what NOT to major in. I think they told themselves, "She'll figure it out." During my English commencement ceremony at University of California, Berkeley, Maxine Hong Kingston (author of The Woman Warrior & China Men and one of my writing professors) told us all to go out there and make a job for ourselves. Waaay ahead of her time in giving advice. I remember her saying, Just create a job for yourself! It wasn't easy. I never thought it would be, as I watched my parents build a manufacturing business. In becoming a manager, then a director, and then an executive coach and leadership facilitator, I learned that something not being easy was necessary. And can be good. #eq I coach my clients that feeling uncomfortable is good. Stay in it. Ask WHY. #growthmindset #awesomeleader To all the graduates this Spring, being uncomfortable is expected. You'll figure it out when you sit in it and ask questions. And look around and ask for help. And majoring in English and German turned out to be a GREAT decision. ;) #executivecoach And if you want to know about 18th century German literature and the French Revolution, let me know. ;) I got a whole semester on it. I don't regret it at all. https://lnkd.in/gzFtC-xh

Facebook reminded me that one year ago today, I pissed off someone I don't even know--when she read my newsletter. Leaders and wannabe leaders everywhere . . . if you don't want to know what you're doing wrong as a leader or as an executive team, don't ask for my help. I never played softball and will not learn how to play it now. #executivecoach I also share what you do well and how to focus on strengths, of course. But the first part is helping you understand what's not working. You know where to find me if you're ready to embrace leading with ease after doing some necessary and maybe not that fun self-reflection. ❤️ In that "tearing the county apart!" newsletter, all I did was compare three leaders in the public spotlight. Later this week I'll toss around Will Smith, Putin, Zelenskyy, Biden, and Albright. #awesomeleader #executivedevelopment #leadershipdevelopment
