if 5 machines finish 5 widgets in 5 minutes it means per machine does 1 widget in 5 minutes.Rate of 1 machine = 1 widget/5 minutes.so if 100 machines work together the machines can finish 100 widgets in 5 minutes.Answer choice B

Useful property : no. of machine * time * rate = work 5 * 5 * R = 5R = 1/5.Now we can use this rate to find out the required time: no. of machine * time * rate = work 100 * T * 1/5 = 100T = 5.
Thus the best answer is B.

The rate of 5 machines is 1 widget per minute, so the rate of 100 machines is 1 x 20 = 20 widgets per minute, so it will take 100 machines 100/20 = 5 minutes to make 100 widgets.Answer: B _________________

In a lake, there is a patch of lily pads. every day the patch doubles in size. If it takes 48 days for the patch to cover the entire lake, how long would it take for the patch to cover half of the lake?

We know M1T1/W1 = M2 T2 /W25 machines 5 minutes to make 5 widgets.So, 5 * 5 /5 = 100 * T2 /100=>T2 = 5
