Power Book II: Ghost is really starting to spotlight Effie Morales, who is first introduced to Tariq St. Patrick and Brayden Weston during their high school years at Choate. They brought her into their amateur drug business before they tried to put her out of business. In retaliation, Effie exposed the guys, had them thrown out, and took control of the company for herself.

Fast forward a couple of years, the trio is now in business together in college. If you read her character description on bleedingcool.com, it states that she is “a Yale student no stranger to drama.”

” Effie’s quest to financial freedom via drug dealing leads her to big competition — her former Choate classmates, Tariq and Brayden. But when Effie decides to join forces with Tariq and Brayden again, she will be forced to determine where her loyalties lie — with herself and herself only, or with people who have shown their true colors time and time again.”

The Creator of Power Book II: Ghost was on Instagram Live last week when he revealed when a fan would get the back story on Effie.

“Yes, you will, but that’s season three, that’s not going to come this season, said Kemp.

“I know I’m not supposed to tell people that, but I kind of like for you guys to know what to expect. And if you are exactly expecting to see a lot of Effie backstory this season, it is not coming. It is coming for next year.”

In 2020, Kemp shared that “Effie’s mom is a mess. But I’ll tell you about that later,” Kemp revealed in a 2020 Instagram Live. “And if you guys remember, close readers of the series, Effie’s brother is dead. He was murdered, so keep that in mind.”

As of right now, she is the middle man when it comes to Tariq and the Tejada’s. Since Tariq is on trial for a double murder and has an ankle monitor that tracks his every move.

In episode eight of Power Book II: Ghost, everything hit the fan at the end of the episode when Diana Tejada revealed that Cane switched the product with sugar.

She also revealed that her mother’s Monet was hooking up with Dante, aka Mecca, and then shared that Zeke was not her nephew but her son, born in 1999.

This week’s Instagram Live Q& A session with Courtney Kemp revealed that Diana Tejada originally didn’t spill any tea. Still, it was triggered after Monet told the family that she knew Diana slept with Tariq St. Patrick.

“Monet triggered it. However, Monet did have an option, and you guys know I love to do this. I love to make people be their own biggest enemy,” said Kemp.

“Diana comes to see Monet earlier in the episode before Monet and Lorenzo go to Coney Island. She says, mom, I need to talk to you, and if you guys remember, Monet is like, what little girl? What? So, Diana gives up and goes away; that was her opportunity to have the conversation privately.”

She would also add that the dinner scene was one of her favorite Power Scenes of all time.

Later in the Live, Kemp tapped in with LaToya Tonodeo, who plays Diana Tejada, and asked her about her week after the big dinner scene.

“Crazy! First of all, we don’t play. The internet don’t play because of those memes; I have been a buff basketball player, Maury giving out DNA results, like the ether beat,” said Tonodeo.

“I’m like this is crazy, but I’m enjoying it. It’s fun and funny because they keep me laughing.”

Then Kemp asked Tonodeo if she had seen the growth of Diana from season one as she watched the playback of season two.

“Oh my God, yes. The growth from season one up until now, she has matured, she has elevated, she has gotten a little bit more edger, swagger. I love Diana, she is using her voice forsho clearly because she said it all.”

She shared what it felt like to film that scene as well, “We shot it over two days Shana [Stein] was not playing. There was this one part that people don’t know, originally when we did our coverage Mary J. Blige [Monet Tejada] was actually seated. So, when they went to her coverage, she decided to lunge, she told Woody McClain [Cane Tejada], yeah, I’m going to lunge at her, I had no idea. So, when she jolted up and at me.”

“Let me tell you, I was really low-key nervous. I was like whoa and went towards my dad to save me. She threw the napkin and y’all didn’t catch it visually, it went on my face and I was trying to move it. It was the most fun, we literally feed off each other we weren’t playing. Every single person in that room brought it the energy, it was literally the nuclear dinner. Like it was written in our arc, the nuclear dinner. It was the best I love that scene.”

With two episodes left in season 2 of Power Book II: Ghost, you can catch them on Starz at 8 pm EST on Sunday nights or stream on the Starz app.

Power Book II: Ghost Season 2, is coming to a close, and Effie Morales (Alix Lapri) has emerged as one of the most vital characters in the series. Still, as much as Tariq St. Patrick (Michael Rainey Jr.) has had to lean on Effie, things aren’t exactly as they appear.

In fact, there is a major clue from a recent episode that proves that Effie can’t be trusted.

Effie is still a mystery on ‘Power Book II: Ghost’

Though Effie has become a major character in the second season of Ghost, she is still very much a mystery. “Effie Morales, a Yale student no stranger to drama,” her official character description reads. “And her quest for financial freedom via drug dealing leads her to big competition — her former Choate classmates, Tariq and Brayden. But when Effie decides to join forces with Tariq and Brayden again, she will be forced to determine where her loyalties lie — with herself and herself only, or with people who have shown their true colors time and time again.”

Now there is a major clue that the Yale student is up to no good.

There’s a major clue that Effie can’t be trusted

Though all parties involved have matured a great deal, Power Universe fans will recall that when Effie, Tariq, and Brayden (Gianni Paolo) were students at Choate, Effie had the two boys expelled. Though Tariq tried to cut her out of their drug business, just when they were making amends, Effie turned the guys in, getting them expelled which allowed for her to have a monopoly on the drug business for herself.

Now, that the three are back in business together, things seem to be going well. However, there is a major clue that Effie can’t be trusted. With his court case looming, Tariq has put Effie in charge of his business, making her the contact point with Monet Tejada (Mary J. Blige).

Power Universe creator Courtney Kemp pointed out during an Instagram Live that during their conversation Effie asked Tariq how closely she would be working with Cane Tejada (Woody McClain). She said that she just wanted to make sure Tariq was safe, but as we know, Effie is going to look out for herself above all others.

Effie’s original drug supplier is also a major mystery and some fans believe she has a connection to Mecca (Daniel Sunjata).

Effie’s backstory will be explored in ‘Power Book II: Ghost’ Season 3

Since we’ve only heard glimpses about Effie’s past, much of who she has not been revealed to the Ghost audience yet. “Effie’s mom is a mess. But I’ll tell you about that later,” Kemp revealed in a 2020 Instagram Live. “And if you guys remember, close readers of the series, Effie’s brother is dead. He was murdered, so keep that in mind.”

Explaining that Effie is one of her favorite characters in the Power Universe, Kemp also explained that much of her background will come to light in the third season of Ghost. During a recent Instagram Live, she implored fans to pay close attention to the Yale student.

We know that Effie has been a support system to Tariq since he was arrested, but she could have ulterior motives.
