What is music for a sushi restaurant

Perhaps the easiest way of describing “Music for a Sushi Restaurant” is as it being primarily set in a sushi restaurant, where the vocalist is on a date with the addressee, the apple of his eye. And basically, Harry utilizes a bunch of metaphors related to that setting to point to his physical attraction to her.

Yes, he does state forthrightly in the chorus that he is in “love” with his “babe”, further asserting that this is something she already knows. Ultimately, because of that sentimental addition, “Music for a Sushi Restaurant” cannot be classified as a straight-up lust/sex song, as it sorta reads at the onset.

So conclusively, going a bit out on a limb, it would be reasonable to postulate that maybe the featured relationship is something like a budding romance, where the vocalist is still infatuated, if you will, by the looks of the addressee. So he is doing his best to ‘stay cool’ amidst it all. But at the same time, Style is also making it abundantly clear to this lady that he wants her.

When was “Music for a Sushi Restaurant” released?

“Music for a Sushi Restaurant” is the opening track to “Harry’s House”, a project by English singer Harry Styles. And said project is actually the singer’s third studio offering.

This song hit the airways on May 20 of 2020, the same date its album (“Harry’s House”) was officially released.

Did Harry Styles write “Music for a Sushi Restaurant”?

Yes, he did. But Styles didn’t achieve the writing of this song all by himself. He collaborated with big team made up of the following:

  • Mitch Rowland
  • Tyler Johnson
  • Kid Harpoon

Co-writers Tyler and Kid are also credited as the song’s producers and co-producers of the entire album.

Album

“Harry’s House” was put launched by Columbia Records in conjunction with Erskine Records. “As It Was” and “Late Night Talking” are the first two singles to be officially released from this album. The former, being the lead single, was issued several weeks ahead of the official release of this project. It was made public on April 1. And the latter, which is the album’s second single, dropped on May 20.

  • Harry Styles wrote this funky and jazzy love song after he heard one of his Fine Line tracks playing in an LA sushi restaurant. Styles, who was dining with one of his producers, commented that it was strange music for such an eatery. He then thought to himself, "Music For a Sushi Restaurant" could be a fun album title. Eventually, he decided Harry's House had a better ring to it, but he retained "Music For a Sushi Restaurant" as this song's name.

  • Lyrically, this is a collection of racy food metaphors describing Styles' attraction for his love interest.

You're sweet ice cream, but you could use a Flake or two
Blue bubblegum twisted 'round your tongue

  • Styles wrote "Music For a Sushi Restaurant" with guitarist Mitch Rowland and Harry's House producers Tyler Johnson and Kid Harpoon.

  • The three songwriters played all the instruments (synthesizer, bass guitar, electric guitar, drum machine, drums) apart from Ivan Jackson on the trumpet. Jackson is one half of the New Jersey production duo BrassTracks, who won two Grammy Awards for their work on Chance the Rapper's single "No Problem." Jackson previously played horns on Fine Line's title track, "Lights Up," and "Watermelon Sugar."

  • This is the opening track of Harry's House. Styles originally had something different in mind to start of the album, but after writing "Sushi" he decided it fit the bill perfectly. "It becomes really obvious what the first song should be based on what you play for people when they're like, 'Oh, can I hear a bit of the music?'" he told Apple Music. "It's like, how do you want to set the tone?"

  • The song features in an Apple advertising campaign that promotes the immersive audio experience on the third generation AirPods. The playful spot is a throwback to the classic Apple "Silhouettes" ads launched in 2003 as a visually minimalist way of promoting the original iPod. Gal Muggia and Vania Heymann, the Israeli duo behind music videos like Coldplay's "Up & Up" and Dua Lipa's "We're Good," directed the commercial.

Styles asked Apple to donate his payment to the International Rescue Committee.

Harry Styles’ much-anticipated new album Harry’s House dropped today and fans couldn’t be more excited.

The 28-year-old took to Instagram to announce its release, sharing a series of photos of himself in the recording studio with the caption: “Harry’s House. Out Now.”

His third studio album features 13 tracks, including the former One Direction star’s hit single As It Was, and the album certainly hasn’t disappointed.

Matilda, Little Freak and Satellite are just a few of the incredible tracks, but fans are particularly obsessed with the opening song, Music For a Sushi Restaurant.

Here’s the story behind the strange-titled track…

The story behind the track

Harry Styles spoke to NPR’s Leila Fadel about the album this week and revealed the story behind the bizarre song.

“I was in a sushi restaurant in Los Angeles with my producer and one of our songs came on from the last album,” he said before revealing that he thought it was “really strange music for a sushi restaurant”.

“And then I was like – that would be a really fun album title, but then as the song started being made I kind of just set on Music for a Sushi Restaurant,” the star continued.

Music for a Sushi Restaurant definitely would have been a great album name, but Harry’s House has a better ring to it.

“So the next time you’re in a sushi restaurant and this is playing you’ll be like ‘It fits’,” Leila joked, to which Harry said: “I’ll be like – this is everything I’ve ever wanted.”

It has some thirsty lyrics

As with most Harry Styles songs, Music for a Sushi Restaurant has some thirsty lyrics.

It’s designed as a fun song to be played in a sushi restaurant, but it’s also got a few racy lines about love.

Lines like “Green eyes, fried rice, I could cook an egg on you” and “Blue bubblegum twisting ’round your tongue” have got fans’ hearts racing.

The star continues: “If the stars were edible, and our hearts were never full, could we live with just a taste?”

Music for a Sushi Restaurant doesn’t have many lyrics, but the ones it does have are certainly exhilarating.
