Is the iPhone 6 Plus and 6s Plus the same size case

Now that we know the , the most important question in the world can be posed: Will your iPhone 6 or 6 Plus case fit on the new models?

Some companies, like

, have said that their iPhone 6 cases will fit the new iPhones. Check the website of your case manufacturer and see if they’ve made a statement about their cases.

You really need to look at the new iPhones in person to make sure your old case fits. But by the looks of the product photos, the cameras and side buttons haven’t moved, so your case alignment should be fine. The dimensions of the new iPhones have changed, however, which will determine if you can still use your case.

iPhone 6s

The iPhone 6s is almost the same size as the iPhone 6—in inches it’s the same height and width, but the 6s is bigger by fractions of a millimeter. The iPhone 6s is deeper, measuring 0.28 inches (7.1 millimeters). That’s 0.01 inches (0.2 mm) thicker than the iPhone 6. And the 6s weighs more, too.

There’s a good chance your iPhone 6 case can fit on the iPhone 6s. If you’re using a silicon or leather case, your case probably has stretched a little with age, so it may fit fine on a new iPhone 6s. Hard-shell cases are a different story—they’ll probably fit, unless the fit is already very tight on your iPhone 6.

iPhone 6s Plus

The iPhone 6s Plus is bigger overall than the iPhone 6 Plus. It’s taller, wider, deeper, and even weighs more than its predecessor—we’re talking .1 or .2 mm on each dimension, so it’s not obviously bigger, which means you might think that your case will fit.

And it may, if you have a silicon or leather case that’s developed some give over time. It’s possible, though, that an iPhone 6 Plus hard-shell case that needs a snug fit won’t really fit on the iPhone 6s Plus.

Bottom line: It’s a case-by-case issue, but there’s a good chance your iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus case will fit.

Editor’s note: Updated on 9/12/15 with corrections to dimension measurements.

With only minor tweaks to the design of the iPhone 6, cases designed for last year's handset should properly fit the iPhone 6s series when it launches later this month, meaning upgraders won't need to buy new accessories.

Apple's website notes that both its leather and silicone cases for the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus will also fit the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, respectively. All four handsets are being sold by the company simultaneously, and the official Apple cases are confirmed to fit both the iPhone 6 series and the 6s lineup.

This year's iPhone 6s lineup is slightly thicker and heavier, but not enough to make cases designed for the iPhone 6 obsolete. Cases for last year's phone should fit the iPhone 6s just fine.

Though cases will continue to fit with the latest models, the new iPhone 6s lineup is slightly thicker than the iPhone 6 models.

Specifically, the iPhone 6s Plus is slightly taller, at 6.23 inches in this year's model, compared to 6.22 inches for the iPhone 6 Plus. The new Plus model is also slightly wider, at 3.07 inches, up from 3.06 inches last year.

Both the iPhone 6s and the 6s Plus are also slightly thicker at 0.28-inch and 0.29-inch, respectively. In comparison, last year's iPhone 6 was 0.27-inch thick, while the iPhone 6 Plus was at 0.28-inch

Finally, this year's models are also slightly heavier. The Plus model has seen an increase from 6.07 ounces to 6.77 ounces, while the iPhone 6s weighs in at 5.04 ounces, up from 4.55 ounces for the iPhone 6.

Much of these external changes are believed to be related to a new casing material. Apple's iPhone 6s lineup utilizes 7000 series aluminum, which makes the device more rigid. Apple uses the same aluminum alloy on its Apple Watch Sport.

Given that Apple's cases fit both last year's and this year's models, it's likely that virtually all third-party cases will also fit properly. Case maker Speck indicated as much last week.

As for Apple's own cases, the company greatly expanded the color options for its silicone case lineup. While last year's iPhone 6 cases came in six total colors, this year the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s silicone options now total 11 different colors.

Apple's silicone cases for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s are available in the following shades:

  • White
  • Charcoal Gray
  • Stone
  • Antique White
  • Blue
  • Turquoise
  • Midnight Blue
  • Lavender
  • Pink
  • Orange
  • Product(RED)

The leather cases, meanwhile, come in five colors:

  • Midnight Blue
  • Saddle Brown
  • Rose Gray
  • Brown
  • Black

The new 13-inch MacBook Pro with the M2 chip appears to be faster than a base model Mac Pro in benchmarks, despite costing nearly $5,000 less. In an apparent Geekbench 5 result that surfaced on Wednesday, the new 13-inch MacBook Pro achieved a multi-core score of 8,928, while the standard Mac Pro configuration with an 8‑core Intel Xeon W processor has an average multi-core score of 8,027...

Both the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus are slightly bigger than their predecessors the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, however, they're only 0.01 inches wider, taller, and thicker. This slight increase should not affect cases, and you should be able to use your iPhone 6 or 6 Plus case with the new s-devices. You can also contact the manufacturer of your iPhone 6 or 6 Plus case and ask them if it will fit the 6s and 6s Plus. You can do this by visiting the manufacturer's website or finding them on social media such as Facebook and Twitter.
