How To Collect Honey In Minecraft?
To acquire honey in Minecraft, you’ll need three key items — glass bottles, campfire, and of course a bee nest. The bottles are used to store the honey, while the vampire protects you from bees as it makes them docile and they won’t attack. The beehive is pretty self explanatory!
- Find a bee nest, which are usually located in birch or oak trees throughout biomes including Plains, Sunflower Plains, and Flower Forest.
- The nest must reach Level 5, and when it does, you’ll see honey dripping from the nest to signal it’s ripe of the picking!
- Place a campfire under the nest, taking care to ensure there are no obstructions between the fire and the nest. As mentioned, this will calm the bees so they won’t sting you.
- Use your glass bottle on the nest to acquire the honey.

Before you head out to find honeycomb, make sure you take a pair of shears with you. You will need this to harvest the honeycomb.
You might also want to bring a campfire along with you.
The bees don’t like it when you take their honey and they can sting. Placing a campfire beneath the hive can scare them away as you harvest.

Finding Honeycomb in Survival Mode
Honeycomb is a natural resource found in trees in different biomes. You can’t craft honeycomb but you can find it.
In this tutorial, we are going to give you step-by-step instructions that will help you find and harvest honeycomb. We’ll also give you some hints and tips for using honeycomb.
1. Finding a bee’s nest
The key to finding honeycomb in survival mode is to find a bee’s nest. The best way to do this is to follow a bee home.
You shouldn’t have any trouble spotting a bee. They’re massive compared to their real-life counterparts!
Bees will return to their hives at night or when it starts raining. To avoid spending the whole day following a bee around a flower patch, try to find one as the sun begins to set.
If you haven’t been able to spot a bee, you can look for a hive.
Hives spawn in three different biomes; plains, flower forest, and sunflower plains. Essentially, they can spawn wherever there are trees and flowers.
Hives will be found hanging from oak or birch trees. They are the same size as the blocks of the trunk and dark yellow.
2. Checking for honey
I know you’ll be buzzing to jump in and collect that delicious honeycomb, but before you do, check that the nest has honey!
When bees return to the nest with pollen, they top up the honey level in the nest. If you’ve followed a bee home, you’ll know that there is some honey in the nest.
If you’ve stumbled across a nest you’ll need to look for honey dripping out of the holes in the nest. This happens when the honey level reaches 5. In other words, when five bees have deposited pollen, honey will drip from the nest.
Unfortunately, there is no way to tell how full the nest is until the honey level reaches 5. So sometimes you are going to have to take a chance.
3. (Optional) Place a campfire under the nest.
If you want to avoid getting stung you can place a campfire under the nest. This is a good idea because if you get stung you will become poisoned. If you’re already low on health this can be fatal!
To place the campfire, use the hot bar to hold the campfire. Place the campfire on the block under the hive. The bees won’t attack until you attack them or their hive so you don’t have to worry about them as you place the fire.
Once in place, the campfire will keep the bees at a distance.
4. Equip the shears
Use the hot bar to place the shears in your hand.
5. Harvest the honeycomb
Use the shears on the bees nest to get honeycomb. If the nest is dripping with honey it should produce 3 honeycombs. If it is less than full you’ll get one or two honeycombs.
Make sure you pick up the honeycombs before they disappear!

Using Honeycomb
Honeycomb is the key to creating beehives. With beehives, you can harvest honey. Honey is great for removing poison effects, so it’s really handy to have a source nearby.
You can also make honeycomb blocks. These are decorative blocks that can be used to spice up your buildings. Note that a honeycomb block is not the same as a honey block.
