1. Find a Pumpkin
First off we need to find a pumpkin to carve. You can find pumpkin seeds in dungeon chests, mine shaft chests, or simply growing in the wild. Pumpkins can grow in any biome as long as there is a grass block with space above it for the pumpkin to grow. While they are rare in the overworld, there are a few places that they can almost always be found.
Pumpkins can be found in woodland mansions.
Pumpkins generate naturally in the taiga and snowy taiga villages.
They can be found in some shipwreck supply chests in stacks of 1-3.
2. Use the Shears on the Pumpkin
Once you’ve found a pumpkin or grown one from seeds, equip your shears and right-click (or the equivalent if you’re on mobile) the pumpkin.
Once you’ve done that you’ve successfully carved your pumpkin!
3. Grab Your Carved Pumpkin!
Once you’ve carved it, you should get 4 pumpkin seeds in your inventory to make more pumpkins with and you should be looking at a carved pumpkin! Congrats, you did it! Use an ax or any other tool to break it and pick up your very own carved pumpkin.
If you want to turn your pumpkin into a jack-o-lantern it’s even simpler. Just go to a crafting table or even your inventory and place your pumpkin in the squares with a torch directly below it.

If you do not have a pumpkin, you can find them naturally generated in any biome that has grass blocks. They also spawn in farm rooms in woodland mansions and wool tents in pillager outposts. However, they have a very low chance of spawning in a chunk, so you may need to venture out a bit before you find one!
If you cannot locate a pumpkin in the overworld, you can find pumpkin seeds and grow a pumpkin to carve. Pumpkin seeds are found in dungeon, mineshaft, village and woodland mansion chests in both Minecraft Java and Bedrock Edition.

To make a snow golem, place two snow blocks on top of one another, then the carved pumpkin on top of the second snow block.
